Swyde is an encyclopedic project to document scientific explanations and clarifications in the form of questions and answers.

About Swyde

Swyde was founded by Karthikeyan KC [1] in 2013, as a social-networking project for science enthusiasts and science-fiction writers. The project was then abandoned for three years until it was renewed in 2016, as a new collaborative project dedicated to science and related discussions.

Contributing to Swyde

Swyde is a project inspired by Wikipedia and /r/ELI5, a subreddit of Reddit. Which means that anyone can create, edit and ask questions on Swyde. If you are a Wikipedian, you are already on a track to contribute on Swyde. If you are not, it is not that daunting to click edit and make improvements. We are always here to help you out in case you need help.

Content Criteria

Swyde is focused on creating an encyclopedia of science and directly related fields only.

• Swyde is NOT a place to document information and clarifications about politics, entertainment, personal history, unproved hypothesis, culture, and similar non-scientific categories.
• Swyde is a place to document information and clarifications on scientific facts, explanations, theories, experiments, technologies, and other factual contents under similar scientific categories.

Contents should be properly cited with verified and reliable sources that are accepted by the community.

How to ask a question?

Asking a question is as simple as editing any questions sections like 'Frequently Asked Questions' or 'Other Questions' and adding your question.

How to look for a question and answer a question?

Search for the category you are interested in and look for pages that suit your interests. If there are any open questions in the questions sections like 'Frequently Asked Questions' or 'Other Questions', you can simply click edit and add your answer appropriately.

How to improve a question or an answer?

Click the section you want to edit and improve the contents appropriately. When saving the edits, please provide your reasons for improvements so the others could get an idea of how the answer is improved.

How is Swyde different from an Encyclopedia?

Swyde is a public effort to collectively list all frequent clarifications on any science topics. Unlike encyclopedias that focuses on an in-depth information on a subject, Swyde is focused on offering in-depth explanations in a concise format and explore it further with answers to the most common questions that framed the explanation in the first place.

Page Layout

For consistency, all swyde pages will follow a simple layout of three basic sections.

1. Explanation section that explains the subject or topic targeted to an intermediate age group.
2. Frequently Asked Questions section that comprises all the questions and answers that are often asked about the subject or topic.
3. Other Questions section that comprises the questions that are occasionally or rarely asked regarding the subject or topic.
