In general, the nuclear force can be explained as the residual effect of the strong interaction that happens inside a hadron. [[Quark]]s exchange [[gluon]]s to maintain their [[color charge]] and this give rise to the strong interaction. In a similar way, the nucleons exchange [[meson]]s (a quark and anti-quark pair) like, pi meson, vector meson, rho meson, and omega meson and interact with each other in short ranges as the nuclear force. This is similar to the concept of the [[Van der Waals force]]s.
