Beryllium is an element of the periodic table with atomic number 4. It is a rare element and only occurs in compounds containing other elements naturally. In elemental form it is a lightweight and brittle alkaline earth metal. Some uses of it include aerospace components and particle detectors. It has only one stable isotope, namely 9Be . It has the electron configuration [He] 2s2.
